Set up iPrivateVPN on your computer, phone or other device to get online securely.

You need an active iPrivateVPN subscription in order to follow the instructions on this page.

Windows 7

  1. Setting up L2TP VPN in Windows 7 is very easy. You just need to follow the steps given below.

    • First, click on Start Menu and type Network. Then select the “Network and Sharing Center                                                                                                                                                                                                            1
    • Click on “Set up a new network”                                                                   2

    Now you will need to enter the server information.

    • In the text box labelled “Internet address” type VPN server host name you will find here.
    • In the text box labelled “Destination name” type “iPrivate VPN” or whatever you want. This is the name of the connection, and will show up in the “Connect to a network” screen when we’re done.
    • Then click the “Create” button.                                                                                                                     3

    Enter your IPrivate VPN username and password

    • In this screen, enter your VPN username and password.
    • In the text box labeled “User name:”, enter username.
    • In the text box labeled “Password:”, enter your password.
    • Optionally, check the “Remember this password” checkbox and you won’t have to enter your password when you connect to .
    • Then, click the “Create” button.

    Go to the connection

    • Click on the Start Menu, type the word “Network” into the search box, and click on “Network and Sharing Center”.
    • When the Network and Sharing Center opens, click on “Connect to a network”.
    • When you click on “Connect to a network”, a list of VPNs pops up. Right click on the “My VPN” connection (the VPN connection just created) and choose “Properties”.

    Change the VPN type to L2TP

    • In the “Properties” of new VPN connection, click on the “Type of VPN” pop up menu and select “L2TP/IPsec”.
    • Next, click on the “Advanced Settings” button.
    • Also, check the “Allow these protocols” options and select “Unencrypted password (PAP)”
    • Even though it says unencrypted PAP, the password is sent through a secure and encrypted L2TP layer of transmission.                                                                                               4

    Set the Preshared Key

    • In the “IPsec Settings” dialog, click the radio button labeled “Use preshared key for authentication”. Then type “VPNPSK” into the textbox labeled “Key”. Then click the “OK” button.                                                                          5

    Networking settings

    • This screen shows you the network settings. You may have different items in your list. In the list of items that you see, make sure that only the “Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)” and “Client for Microsoft Networks” items are checked. If other protocols are checked, uncheck them by clicking on the checkbox.


    IPrivate VPN currently does not route anything except TCP/IP version 4.


    • You’re now done with your setup! You’ve set up your IPrivate VPN connection to use L2TP.
    • Click “OK” to finish now, and then connect to our VPN server by this connection.
  1. Select the three-line menu in the upper right corner of Chrome, then choose Settings
  2. Select Add connection.
  3. Choose Add private network.
  4. Add the iPrivateVPN server address from the list provided here.
  5. Choose a name for your VPN server.
  6. Select L2TP/IPsec as the Provider type.
  7. Enter the IPSec shared secret key found on the IPSec shared key page. Press Ok to continue.
  8. Fill in the iPrivate username and password in the respective places. Click “Connect.”

Setup L2TP VPN on Android

  • The first step is to go to your Settings option.
  • Next you can select the Wireless & networks option and then look for the VPN option.

  • Here you have the option to Add VPN.
  • Once you do so, you get to setup the VPN profile. If the Type is set to any other protocol by default, you will need to change it to L2TP/IPSec PSK.

For older Android version, you might have to select among various VPN options and protocols. Select Add L2TP/IPSec PSK VPN.

  • In the Name field, you can give your preferred name for the connection.
  • Set the Server address from the list you would find here.
  • Next you can enter VPNPSK into the IPSec pre-shared key field.


  • Once you complete this, tap on the Save option that will get activated.
  • Then you will see your newly setup VPN connection. Tap on it and it will ask you for your Username and Password. You can also tick the Save account information option, so that you do not have to enter it every time.
  • Once you tap on Connect, it will take a while before it shows Connected.
  • From your notifications drawer, you can see the details of the connection.


Setup L2TP VPN on Mac

  • Click the network icon on the top-right side on the Mac screen. Click “Open Network Preferences…” in the menu.


  • Click the “+” button on the network configuration screen.


  • Select “VPN” as “Interface”, “L2TP over IPsec” as “VPN Type” and click the “Create” button. A new L2TP VPN configuration will be created, and the configuration screen will appear.


  • On this screen, you have to specify either hostname or IP address of the destination VPN Server from the list you will find here.
  • After you specified the “Server Address”, input you Username on the “Account Name” field, which is the next to the “Server Address” field.


  • Next, click the “Authentication Settings…” button.
  • The authentication screen will appear. Input your password to the “Password” field. Specify “VPNPSK” on the “Shared Secret” field. After you input them, click the “OK” button.


  • After return to the previous screen, check the “Show VPN status in menu bar” and click on the “Advanced…” button.
  • The advanced settings will be appeared. Check the “Send all traffic over VPN connection” and click the “OK” button.


  • On the VPN connection settings screen, click the “Connect” button to start the VPN connection.
  • You can start a new VPN connection by clicking the “Connect” button at any time. You can also initiate a VPN connection by clicking the VPN icon on the menu bar.
  • After the VPN connection will be established, the VPN connection setting screen will become as below as the “Status” will be “Connected”. Your private IP address on the VPN, and connect duration time will be displayed on the screen.


Setup L2TP VPN on iPhone, iPad, and iTouch

  • The first step is to open up Settings


  • Then select the General option


  • You will find the VPN option towards the bottom. Select that.


  • Next you need to tap on Add VPN Configuration


  • Choose the L2TP tab and enter the necessary information. Give your VPN connection a name of your choice in the Description field, followed by Server whose list you would find here. You will also need to enter your username in the Account field and the Password.


  • For Secret, enter VPNPSK.
  • Now, you can connect to the VPN service by merely tapping the VPN button.


  • It will take a while to connect and then when it does, you will notice a VPN badge appear on the title bar. You can check status by tapping on the VPN connection and then checking your IP.


  1. Click the network menu on the menu bar and, under VPN Connections, select Configure VPN.

  2. Click Add and choose L2TP/IPsec VPN connection.

  3. Click Create and follow the instructions on the screen, entering details like your iPrivateVPN username and password as you go. The server address list and preshared key provided here.

  4. When you’ve finished setting-up the VPN, click the network menu on the menu bar, go to VPN Connections and click on the connection you just created. It will try to establish a VPN connection – the network icon will change as it tries to connect.

  5. You will successfully connect to the VPN. If not, you may need to double-check the VPN settings you entered. You can do this by clicking the network menu, selecting Edit Connections and going to the VPN tab.

Setup L2TP VPN on Windows Phone 8.1

  • Tap on “Settings”


  • Go to “VPN”


  • Tap on the + sign to begin creating a new VPN profile


  • In order to create or add a new VPN profile, you’ll need to enter the following info:

Server name or IP address: Enter any of the IP addresses of the servers from the list you will find here.

Type: Choose “L2TP with IPSec” from the drop-down menu

Connect using: Tap on “Choose an item“. Then tap on “user name+password+preshared key“.


  • Scroll down and enter the following:


User name: Please type in your IPrivate VPN account Username

Password: Type your IPrivate VPN Password.

Preshared Key: Type “VPNPSK” (please mind the capital letters)


  • Turn on the following features:

Connect Automatically: “On”

Send all traffic: “On”


  • You can rename your VPN profile name into anything you like.
  • When you’re done, please double-check the settings you changed and tap “Save”.


  • “Advanced” settings don’t need to be changed, so your advanced settings should look like this.
  • This is what your VPN profile should look like now that it has been created and activated. You should be able to see a padlock right above your wireless connection icon. This means that your internet connection is encrypted.
  • Please tap on “Options” and check the “Allow VPN over cellular data” feature.


  • Once you have established a secure internet connection, you can have your IP checked.
